The Spirit of Sacrifice

If you know this scene, I'll bet it holds a special place in your heart.

Here is the Alamo Cenotaph, titled by its sculptor, Pompeo Coppini, The Spirit of Sacrifice.

Behind it is the Emily Morgan Hotel, flying the Texas flag from its cupola. If you were to look over your right shoulder you would see the Alamo Church itself.

When we are in San Antonio we always stay at the Emily Morgan, so we can enjoy the beauty and peace of walking the plaza late at night, chatting with the Alamo Rangers who protect the Shrine, and pondering the history of the place.

I made this piece because Alamo Plaza at night is just about my favorite place in the world. The color palette is inspired by Van Gogh's Starry Night. I hope you like it.
