Geronimo's Escort

This picture was taken where the tracks of the Southern Pacific line crossed the Nueces River a little west of Uvalde. The date is September 10, 1886, just four days after Geronimo and his band surrendered to Captain Henry W. Lawton (later General Lawton, killed in the Philippines in 1899.)

The Indians pictured are Lawton's Apache scouts. Geronimo and his band are on the train.

That's Captain Lawton in the tall hat with B Troop of the 4th Cavalry. They were en-route to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.

Is it a book? A map? A print? Only one way to find out.
