Young Texas Was BIG Texas

We all know everything is bigger in Texas and that Texas is bigger than darn near everywhere else, but did you know Texas used to be even bigger?

It's true. When the Lone Star joined the constellation of American states, we were the grandest land mass we'd ever be.

Half of New Mexico and most of Colorado were Texas. The northern border of Texas reached clear up to present-day Wyoming.

On February 19, 1846 the last President of the Republic of Texas handed over the reins of power to the first Governor of the State of Texas.

The Republic of Texas was no more. The Great State of Texas was born.

Mapmakers tripped over themselves to create a map of the new state and Samuel Augustus Mitchell created the finest one. It had never been reproduced,  so we reproduce it for today's Texans to proudly display Texas at her grandest.

Each is printed with love in our South Texas office, packed in the sturdiest tube money can buy so it arrives safely at your home, ready for framing.
