Battleship Texas - The Trophy Grabber, 1919 - Limited Edition
The Smartest Man O'war Afloat
The Trophy Grabber
“She was a ship! The smartest man-o’war afloat, and the best. A hard, tough, salty, shootin’, steamin’ fool. A trophy grabber, a fighter, and a he-man battle wagon.”
Those are the words of Ensign Paul Schubert, who served aboard Battleship Texas in her early days.
She was his ship and he and he had a lot to say about her.
"If you know what it is to love a ship. . ." he wrote.
Shubert was a Naval Academy grad, and I guess they taught him how to put his feelings down on paper.
He wrote these words over ninety years ago. While she was still in active service, he knew she would be remembered and commemorated.
He also wrote about her trophy grabbing prowess.
We know many Texas love this ship well. She is the flagship of the Texas Navy after all.
I've loved her since I first visited her when I was five years old. I know many of you have had that same experience.
This limited edition prints shows BB-35 in her early days.
